718 Photography Major 1 I 10-11-12 full year 4 periods 5 credits
Prerequisite: Photography Minor 1 or permission of the instructor
In this in-depth course, you will learn about the advanced functions of the camera, film processing, and darkroom enlarging. In addition, you will be exploring digital photography possibilities. Through individual work and assignments, you will develop your own individual style. Through lectures, discussions, and slide shows, you will learn a variety of techniques, different applications of photography, and the history of the medium. You need not own a camera.
719 Honors Photography Major 2 H 11-12 full year 4 periods 5 credits
Prerequisite: Photography Major 1 and department approval
This advanced honors course is a continuation of material introduced in Photography Major I stressing personal communication skills and advanced techniques in darkroom and digital image making. Through independent projects, you express your individuality; through class assignments and research in the history of photography and technical processes, you increase your understanding of the craft and the art of digital and traditional darkroom photography.13
720 Photography Major 3 H 12 full year 4 periods 5 credits
Prerequisite: Photography Major 2 and department approval
This honors level class continues our course of study from Photography Major 2 as well including portfolio preparation for students.
715 Photography Minor 1 no level 9-10-11-12 F or S 2 periods 1.25 credits
An introduction to photography for students with no experience, you will learn the basics of how the camera works, how to develop film, and enlarge pictures in the darkroom. Understanding the technical fundamentals will lead into the creative aspects of the art of photography and making better photographs. You need not own a camera.
716 Photography Minor 2 no level 10-11-12 full year 2 periods 2.5 credits
Prerequisite: Photography Minor 1 or permission of the instructor.
Minor 2 is a continuation for students who have taken Photography Minor 1 and who want to continue with photography. More in depth coverage of the range of possibilities in the art and craft of photography is included along with an introduction to digital photography on the computer. Further exploration of the technical aspects of film, camera, and darkroom work will lead to an understanding of the artistic process and history of the medium of photography as an art form. You may borrow a camera if you don’t have one.
717 Photography Minor 3 no level 11-12 full year 2 periods 2.5 credits
Prerequisite: Photography Minor 2
More emphasis on your own personal expression and development in the art of photography, this course is a continuation of material introduced in Photography Minor 2. In addition, you will experiment with digital photography, including cameras and Photoshop software on the computer. You may borrow a camera if you don’t have one.
